Prepare to grab your nine iron because Happy Gilmore 2 is officially hitting the green, and Netflix has just unveiled its first complete trailer during Tudum 2025 on Saturday, May 31.
Adam Sandler is back as the beloved hotheaded golfer almost 30 years after the 1996 sports-comedy hit that transformed a tantrum at the driving range into a cinematic gem. Directed by Kyle Newacheck and penned by Sandler’s longtime partners Tim Herlihy and Sandler himself, Happy Gilmore 2 promises to be more than a trip down memory lane—it’s a grand reunion.
In addition to Sandler, fans can look forward to Christopher McDonald reprising his role as the perpetually smug Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen returning as the love interest Virginia. And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the star-studded lineup.
The new cast is a wild blend of athletes, entertainers, and Sandler regulars, including Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, golf pros like John Daly, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and social media star Paige Spiranac. Also in the mix: Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Fine Schneider, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Blake Clark, and NFL star Travis Kelceâplus Sadie and Sunny Sandler, keeping it all in the family.
Speaking of family, Sandler himself teased the sequelâs emotional core while guesting on Kelceâs New Heights podcast back in August 2024.
âThe movie itself picks up from an older guy who played golf a long time. Some stuff goes on in his life, and he’s different â he’s a bit of a mess,â the actor and comedian said. âAnd then we try to get his life cooking again.â
Meanwhile, McDonald, whoâs made a second career out of being Shooter McGavin in spirit, shared his excitement with People at the Fountain of Youth premiere in NYC on May 19:
âI was over the moon to be asked to be inâ the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2, he said. âI’ve been an ambassador for this movie for so long, 29 years later. They’ve outdone themselves.â
Plot details are still under wrapsâMcDonald made sure to mention heâs under NDAâbut he did hint at the filmâs feel-good vibes:
âItâs about family and friends and love and basically a lot of heart, which I love about Adam Sandler’s movies,â he shared.
âWhat I love about Adam Sandler is his heart. He’s got so much love for people ⦠and he’s done some amazing work in the last few years. So I’m very happy for him.â
So mark your calendars: Happy Gilmore 2 hits Netflix on July 25. Whether you’re here for the golf, the gags, or the good vibesâthis one looks like itâs playing straight down the fairway.
