A New Jersey jury convicted Rashid Ali Bynum of murder on Monday in the gunning down of a Republican councilwoman earlier this year.
Eunice Dwumfour, the victim, held the distinction of being the first Black member on the Sayreville city council. Bynum’s sentencing date has been scheduled for Aug. 18 by Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone. Bynum potentially faces a prison term ranging from 30 years to life.
According to Christian Onuoha, a former colleague of Dwumfour on the borough council and a fellow church member of hers, Bynum was part of Dwumfour’s congregation several years ago.
“She was his pastor around 2018,” he told Fox News Digital. “That was the last time any of us remember seeing him.”
Bynum was originally arrested in late May in his home in Chesapeake City, Virginia. He was then transferred to New Jersey.
