A deputy was shot and killed in south Florida on Monday night in what authorities are describing as a “targeted” attack.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received a call about shots being fired in Belle Glade, specifically on Northwest Avenue D, at 7:32 p.m. on Monday, according to a statement.
At the scene, deputies discovered the victim was a 39-year-old off-duty corrections officer.
Upon reaching the scene, deputies discovered an adult male who had been shot. The victim was quickly taken to a nearby hospital to receive necessary medical care, as per the PBCSO.

A ceremonial escort took place late Monday night from St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach to the county medical examiner’s office.
A suspect has not yet been identified.
