A police officer and a gunman were both killed at a Pennsylvania hospital in York County on Saturday morning, according to officials.
The incident took place at UPMC Memorial Hospital at around 10:45 a.m.
According to Ted Czech, a spokesperson from the York County Office of Emergency Management, his team received a 911 call reporting an “active threat” at the hospital.
Although the identity of the shooter has not been disclosed, the deceased officer has been named as Andrew Duarte in a statement posted on the West York Borough Facebook page.
The post conveyed condolences and prayers to the family of Andrew Duarte, a West York Borough Police Officer, as well as to all their colleagues in the police department and other agencies affected by this loss. The community mourns the passing of this brave individual.
