In Chicago, the jury in the federal corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has come to an agreement on 17 out of the total 29 counts. However, they are still unable to reach a decision on the remaining 12 charges.

The jury sent a note to the judge and attorneys Wednesday morning. The judge responded that the jury may decide to reach a partial verdict.

The judge could accept a partial verdict on the counts that have a consensus and declare a mistrial for the remaining counts.
Madigan is accused of a variety of offenses including racketeering, conspiracy, bribery, fraud, attempted extortion, and the use of facility. Among the 23 charges brought against him, six are also shared by his co-defendant, Mike McClain.

The jury has been deliberating over 11 days before reaching the partial verdict.
The case involves five different episodes of criminal allegations.
The trial has been ongoing for several months, commencing with the selection of the jury on October 8th. Throughout the proceedings, numerous witnesses have testified, hundreds of phone calls and emails have been presented as evidence, and Madigan himself has even taken the stand.
