Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Panama to discuss President Trump’s concerns about China’s Road and Belt Initiative encroaching on the Panama Canal with President José Raúl Mulino. Shortly after this meeting, it was revealed that Panama had agreed to not renew their 2017 agreement with China and was exploring ways to terminate it prematurely, which was a surprising development.
Following the meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino, it was announced that Panama had decided not to extend its 2017 agreement with China regarding the “Belt and Road Initiative.” Instead, they expressed intentions to terminate their agreements with the Chinese government before the scheduled end dates in 2027 and 2028.

It would have been roundly interesting to have sat in on the conversation our SecState, Marco Rubio, had with President Mulino. Our guy was obviously, shall we say, persuasive.
