Paris Hilton, California Republicans Announce 2 New Bills Geared to Protect Kids

In a recent update on X, the socialite and reality TV personality expressed her enthusiasm about endorsing two bills in California. These bills include #SB373 introduced by Senator Shannon Grove (R-CA) and #AB653 presented by Assemblymember Tom Lackey (R-CA).

The celeb shared in her post, “Excited to announce my sponsorship of two California bills: #SB373 by @ShannonGroveCA and #AB653 The Child Abuse Mandated Entertainment Reporter Act (CAMERA) by @TomLackey36. I’m thrilled to be continuing my work in protecting children in California and turning my pain into purpose.”

Furthermore, the California Republican Party (CAGOP) commended Hilton for her efforts and highlighted the collaboration on social media, stating, “Republicans are leading the way to protect kids, and we’re grateful @ParisHilton is standing with us to help deliver a better future for families across America.”

SB373 read “A contracting local educational agency and a charter school shall, school, within 14 days of becoming aware of any change to the certification status of a nonpublic, nonsectarian school or agency, shall notify parents of pupils of the local educational agency or charter school who attend the nonpublic, nonsectarian school or agency through email or regular mail notice of the change in certification status and include a copy of the procedural safeguards as specified in Chapter 5 (commencing with Section 56500).”

Lackey explained #AB653 on X further and wrote, “It’s an honor to author and work with @ParisHilton who’s been a huge advocate for children’s protection measures on #AB653 which will make talent agents, managers, and coaches who work with kids mandated reporters in the entertainment industry.”

Hilton testified on Capitol Hill in 2024 about the horrific abuse she said she suffered while a teenager in several youth residential facilities in support of the “Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act,” as RedState reported.

The heiress spoke about the time she spent as a child in youth residential facilities, often referred to collectively as the “troubled teen industry.” The 43-year-old told the committee how she was ripped from her bed at home at 16 and taken to the first of four facilities she would end up staying in. Hilton has previously revealed that her parents sent her to these facilities after she started clubbing and partying at 15. “These programs promised healing, growth and support, but instead, did not allow me to speak, move freely or even look out a window for two years,” Hilton told the panel. “I was force-fed medications and sexually abused by the staff. I was violently restrained and dragged down hallways, stripped naked and thrown into solitary confinement.” Hilton would cope with the abuse she endured in these facilities by pretending to be someone else, she told The Independent last year. “I was in so much pain that I created this Barbie doll fantasy life,” Hilton said. “It was a character I put on as a mask to protect myself.”

Following Hilton’s testimony, the bipartisan-led “Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act “ became law in December.
