Chicago mass shooting: CPD investigating after 3 killed, 5 wounded at Chicago Lawn gathering on 59th Street, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police are still investigating a shooting incident that occurred at a house party in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, leaving eight people shot, and three of them fatally on Monday afternoon.

Maria del Carmen Guidirrama just opened this nutrition shop at the corner of 59th Street and St. Louis Avenue on Sunday.

The second day after her grand opening, a shooting happens across the street

“I’m shocked yeah I’m surprised,” she said. “I’m surprised because this area, walking too much kids.”

She said it was very scary to see several people brought out on stretchers dressed up, she said, as if they were attending a party.

Neighbors confirm what began as a large house party Monday afternoon ended in deadly gunfire.

Chicago police responded to the home just after 2 p.m.

Eight people were shot in total, four men and four women.

One man who was shot multiple times was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead., police said.

A 26-year-old man was shot multiple times and died on the scene, police said. Another man shot multiple times also died on the scene.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg, and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

A 27-year-old woman was shot in the head, and taken to Mt. Sinai in critical condition.

A 31-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, and took himself to UI Health Hospital, where he is listed in good condition.

Chicago police gave an update Monday after a mass shooting on the SW Side.

“The girls were very young, the guys too very young,” Nutrition 59 owner Maria Del Carmen Guidirrama said.

Mayor Brandon Johnson extended his condolences, saying in a statement:

The city is in mourning for all the victims, survivors, and their families, and condemns such senseless acts of violence happening in Chicago.

Meanwhile, investigators have not yet determined a motive or if a suspect was injured in the shooting.

CPD Deputy Chief Jon Hein expressed determination, stating, “Our priority is to resolve this crime and apprehend those responsible for this terrible incident.”

Police said they have been called to that home before.

“You hear music and people coming in and out, like, smoking and with, like, drinks in their hands,” said El Towers. “It was, like, over 20 people.”

The mayor’s office says it will work closely with CPD to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

None of the victims have been officially identified and no one is in custody.
