Chicago shooting: 62-year-old man shot in head through window of West Side home on West Monroe Street, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — A man was shot and critically inured Thursday on the city’s West Side.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:21 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street in Garfield Park, a location that was presumed to be a safe haven within the man’s residence.

A 62-year-old man was the victim of a gunshot wound to the head when bullets penetrated the front window of what appeared to be a second-floor apartment. He was swiftly transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital and was originally listed in critical condition, according to the Chicago police.

A shattered window showed the violent path of a bullet that went through the West Side home.

ABC7 saw officers inside of the home, gathering evidence while doctors at the hospital are working to save the man’s life.

The man is now at least the second victim within only one week who has been shot in Chicago from gunfire that entered their home.

In a separate shooting, Sabrina Hunter took a bullet to the head from a gunman shooting outside of her South Side home one week ago.

“I just felt something hit me like a blow,” Hunter said.

The 47-year-old grandmother was released from the hospital days later.

Her life was spared while doctors are yet again treating another victim in Chicago injured from gunfire that pierced their home.

Police are investigating the two shootings as separate incidents. Still, no one has been arrested in either case.
