MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLS) — One person died in a serious crash Wednesday in the west suburbs, Montgomery police said Thursday morning.
The Montgomery police received reports of a crash at the intersection of Route 31 and Caterpillar Drive in Montgomery around 5:15 p.m. on a Wednesday. Oswego fire crews were also dispatched to the scene.

According to the police, Jason Merrick from Oswego was driving a black Nissan sedan heading south on Route 31. At the same time, a semi-truck driver was traveling north on Route 31 and attempting to turn left onto Caterpillar Drive in a westerly direction.
The sedan hit the truck at the intersection, police said. The truck driver tried to avoid the collision, but could not stop in time, police said.
The sedan became pinned under the truck, and Merrick was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
The roads in the vicinity were shut down for several hours while investigations were conducted by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team (KCART) and the Illinois State Police.
Illinois State Police, KCART and Montgomery police continue to investigate.
