President Donald Trump backs idea to send some DOGE savings to American citizens

President Donald Trump expressed his approval for the idea of redistributing some of the funds saved by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency back to the American people in the form of a dividend.

Speaking at an investment conference in Miami, Trump mentioned that there is a proposal under consideration where 20% of the savings achieved through DOGE’s cost-reduction initiatives would be given to U.S. citizens, while another 20% would be allocated towards reducing the national debt.

Trump also said the potential for dividend payments would incentivize people to report wasteful spending.

“They’ll be reporting it themselves,” Trump said. “They participate in the process of saving us money.”

Later, as he flew back to Washington aboard Air Force One, he was asked by a reporter about the plan floated by Musk.

“I love it,” the Republican president told reporters on the plane.

In response to a suggestion about announcing a “DOGE Dividend” together, Musk took to social media to indicate that he would be consulting with the President. The proposal revolves around returning a portion of the savings generated by DOGE to taxpayers, with the initiative already resulting in the termination or layoff of numerous federal government workers.
