Happy New Year Morning Minute

TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

Biden isn’t even finished yet with vacations. He’s still planning on going to the Vatican in January to visit the Pope to seek “solace and relief.”

America and Americans are on the rise once again, thanks to the efforts of people like the Amish and various organizations that are assisting their fellow citizens.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

The 119th Congress will begin its term in just two days. It is expected that there will be a great deal of excitement to capture our attention. However, it is hoped that in the year 2025, we will see more positive outcomes and less emphasis on mere drama. While entertainment has its place, it is more crucial that our Congress focuses on fulfilling their responsibilities and adequately representing the people they serve.

Incidentally, the Capitol was struck by lightning Tuesday night (as was the Washington Monument). Infer from that what you will.

Meanwhile, several prominent figures were seen at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday evening to welcome the new year, including Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) who is soon to be the National Security Advisor, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

White House What’s Up

President Joe Biden will kick off the new year transitioning from one vacation destination to another. Tuesday, he and First Lady Jill returned from St. Croix. They spent New Year’s Eve at their home in Wilmington, Delaware. Wednesday, they’re headed to Camp David.

Full Court Press…

Not a lot of court news to report today, with the holiday, but expect things to gear back up shortly. The Justice Department is asking the Supreme Court to reinstate the Corporate Transparency Act Beneficial Ownership Information (CTA BOI) law, which the Fifth Circuit placed on hold last week. DOJ filed an emergency application with the high court on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, a military appeals court ruled that SecDef Lloyd Austin could not rescind plea deals reached with 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other defendants.

MORNING MUSING

It’s the very first day of 2025, still early in the morning. I wasn’t banking on my first article of the year being about a mass casualty event, but such is the way of the news world. Let’s keep those injured or killed and their loved ones in our prayers.

I’m hopeful that 2025 will be a less chaotic ride than 2024 was — if ever a year was a roller coaster, 2024 was it. I’m cautiously optimistic about the incoming Trump administration — hopeful that DJT will succeed even beyond his wildest dreams and that at least some will overcome their TDS in the process.

These are beyond-interesting times we live in, but the author of it all remains faithful. May you and yours enjoy a prosperous, healthy, and happy 2025.
