Monday Morning Minute

TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

The Fox interviewer inquired about the government spending $750,000 to determine whether it was “one small step for man” or “one small step for a man” concerning the moon landing. It seems absurd, right? As a resident of D.C. pointed out, not only is the question itself baffling, but the amount of money allocated to it is mind-boggling.

They have nobody on their bench. They’re stuck with a man with cognitive decline and a woman who makes him look intelligent by comparison.

Smith, who is not aligned with the Republican party, actually holds strong liberal views. So, for him to have a change of heart regarding the January 6th protest shows how the Democrats may have gone too far in their actions on the issue.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

On Capitol Hill, there is only one hearing scheduled for Monday: The House Rules Committee will convene in the afternoon to deliberate on the Midnight Rules Relief Act. This bill enables Congress to reject multiple regulations through a single joint resolution within the last 60 legislative days of a President’s term. At present, each joint resolution is only allowed to annul one regulation at a time.

One of the big discussions on the Hill this week will, of course, be funding the government via continuing resolution — a deal needs to be struck (and approved) by Friday. Look for lots of jawing on this.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be making the rounds on the Hill to make his case as President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of HHS. Keep an eye on that one as well.

White House What’s Up

Full Court Press…

In South Korea, the Constitutional Court will begin reviewing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol.

On Friday, the court denied the requests of former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, his wife Nadine, and their co-defendants for an acquittal or new trial, though Judge Sidney Stein did agree that two of the counts as to Menendez and co-defendant Wael Hana were “multiplicitous,” and thus they would only be subject to judgment on one of the two.

MORNING MUSING

I attended a Celebration of Life for a friend yesterday, gone way too soon, yet he lived a full life — one he managed to fill with love and light in spite of facing his fair share of adversity. He leaves behind a loving wife whom he’d shared life with since their late teens, as well as a daughter and two sons. His wife found the strength to deliver his eulogy — I’m not quite sure how, but she did. And as she did, I was as certain as I’ve ever been that he was there with us, as was God. I don’t know how to say it any clearer than that. Their presence was unmistakable. I’m grateful for that moment and for the reminder to make the most of our time here.

LIGHTER FARE
