Peacock is going on a cancellation spree.
The streamer canceled several scripted series in recent months as it makes way for its new slate.
The comedy TV show called “Based On A True Story”, featuring actors Chris Messina and Kaley Cuoco, was canceled despite having two successful seasons. Another show, a sports mockumentary named “Mr. Throwback” which starred Steph Curry and Adam Pally, also got canceled after just one season of six episodes on the streaming platform. The streaming service, Peacock, did not disclose the viewership numbers or provide a specific reason for ending these shows.
Cuoco and Messina played a couple in “Based on A True Story” who launch a true crime podcast and become involved in their own murder investigation. The second season of the show concluded with a gripping cliffhanger, leaving fans disappointed as the story will remain unresolved due to the show’s premature cancellation.
In “Mr. Throwback”, Pally portrayed a collector of memorabilia who reconnects with his former sixth-grade teammate, portrayed by NBA superstar Steph Curry, seeking assistance. Additionally, the series featured Ego Nwodim, a cast member from “Saturday Night Live.”
And these are just the latest of several series to be canceled at Peacock.
The streamer recently canceled Teacup, a horror adaptation starring Handmaid’s Tale actress Yvonne Strahovski, and Hysteria!, another original horror series starring Julie Bowen.
But the streamer still has quite a few projects coming down the pipeline for the rest of the 2025-2026 season.
The Ted prequel series was renewed for a second season after it became the streaming platform’s most-watched original title after it premiered in January. Love Island Games and The Traitors have also been renewed.
Several series are also already returning with new seasons, including Law & Order: Organized Crime and Poker Face.
The cancellations could also be making room for some of Peacock’s newer projects. The streamer recently announced Love Island: Beyond The Villa, a first-of-its-kind series for the platform which will follow the breakout stars of Love Island USA Season 6.
