During the battleground district town hall hosted by CNN on Thursday night, four members of the House of Representatives participated, engaging in discussions about the actions of the GOP Congressional majority and the Trump administration. Audience members also posed questions throughout the event.
Representatives in attendance from the Democratic side included Rep. Derek Tran (D-CA) and Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-CT), while from the Republican side, there were Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA) and Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY).
One notable topic of discussion during the town hall was the Laken Riley Act. A questioner raised concerns about due process and questioned Tran about his decision to vote for the Act despite these alleged issues.
“So, with Trump’s immigration policy and mass deportations, I’m getting really concerned about legislation like the Laken Riley Act, which begs the question of whether due process exists still in America,” energy engineer Johnny Nguyen said, according to the CNN transcript. “So, given your background, both as an attorney and also the son of immigrants like myself, what made you vote yes on that?”
