Robert Irwin is hitting the dance floor.
During Hulu’s Get Real event on Tuesday (April 22), Steve Irwin’s son was revealed as the first celebrity contestant for the next season of Dancing with the Stars. The event also brought the news of the show’s Season 34 renewal.
Introduced by DWTS hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, along with judge Derek Hough and pro dancers Rylee Arnold and Ezra Sosa, the 21-year-old environmentalist appeared shirtless with a boa constrictor named Priscilla wrapped around his neck. He commended Derek for his khakis and expressed his delight at being named a DWTS contestant.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert’s sister Bindi Irwin won the Mirrorball Trophy in Season 21 with Derek Hough. Robert not only shared a clip from his announcement but also posted a throwback video of himself at 11 years old, assisting in an episode of DWTS while his sister was competing on the show.
“11 year old me is beside himself right now 😂,” he captioned the post. “Bindi, thank you for inspiring me to take on this next adventure 🙌🏼☺️ @dancingwiththestars, I’m so grateful for the life-changing experience ahead.”
Decider Features Creator Hope Sloop was there for this moment, and posted the clip of this exciting moment to Decider’s official TikTok channel:
Robert’s father Steve, known for hosting wildlife series like The Crocodile Hunter and Croc Files, passed away in 2006 at 44 years old after suffering an injury from a stingray bite, per People. According to an April 22 press release, the rest of the DWTS Season 34 cast will be revealed at a later date.
Dancing with the Stars Season 34 will air live on ABC and stream live on Disney+. Next-day streaming will be available on Hulu.
