Meghan Markle has been accused of faking her St Patrick’s Day waffles after royal fans noticed something weird about them.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared Instagram videos that showcased her making a Shamrock green holiday-themed breakfast using a waffle maker to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint with her family.
In the videos, she was seen mixing a vibrant concoction and then pouring it into a sizzling hot black cast-iron waffle maker. She mentioned that the Sussexes enjoy a good theme when it comes to their meals.
But eagle-eyed social media users immediately claimed there was something suspicious about her Irish-inspired waffles.
They claimed that the treats that she showed off on her Instagram looked completely different from the pattern on the waffle maker she was using.
Her iron, which appears to be a $50 Cuisinart Waring Pro WMK200 Belgian Waffle Maker, has deep ridges so each waffle can be split into quarters.
Eagle-eyed royal enthusiasts pointed out that the waffles she served up to Archie and Lilibet, garnished with kiwi, blueberry, and whipped cream to resemble a face, lacked the characteristic ridges and were flat in appearance.
However, one supporter suggested she could have made different ones for adults and children using different irons.
It came as royal fans became convinced that Meghan used a waffle iron gifted by the late Queen to Archie to make the St Patrick’s Day-themed dish for Harry and the children.
‘We love a theme!’ Meghan wrote alongside her post, featuring a waffle with a kiwi for a mouth, blueberries for eyes, and whipped cream hair.
‘For the kids,’ she wrote – referring to five-year-old Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, three.
For her and husband Prince Harry, 40, Meghan served a plain green waffle alongside a dollop of cream and two strawberries.
‘For us! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!’ she added alongside her green-themed photographs.
‘She did not make that mess in that waffle maker. Anyone noticed something missing?
‘The waffle maker has four sections. None of that slop she made has any sections.
‘Come on people. At least call her out instead of just posting about her.’
The user included a picture of a bright green waffle on a blue plate with four sections.
‘This is what a four-section waffle would look like,’ they wrote.
The post has received almost 118,000 views with many people agreeing in the comments.
‘Her kid’s waffles look like colored Eggos – not homemade at all,’ someone observed.
The poster responded by saying: ‘Definitely not with the waffle maker she’s trying to pretend.
‘They would’ve been a lot thicker and the sections would’ve been like this. I can’t believe she thinks people are dumb.’
‘Good eye! Why does she waste her time since everything she does is so cringe?’ another questioned.
‘Great catch! I just noticed that in another photo, the waffle is in 2 sections. So phoney,’ a user shared.
‘Wow such a good catch! Thank you so much,’ someone wrote.
‘Wow great attention to detail. I was wondering why those were so light green. It didn’t seem right to me like artificial really artificially green but I didn’t notice the four lines,’ a user stated.
‘Yeah Meghan Markle is definitely lazy. She is lazy.’
However, one user observed the story posts differently.
‘Looks like she made big ones for the adults and small ones for the kids. In a weird way, she denotes this,’ they shared.
After seeing Meghan’s clip on Instagram, royal fans speculated on X/Twitter that the kitchen kit used to make the themed breakfasts came from Prince Harry’s late grandmother.
One fan wrote: ‘I bet this is the same waffle maker QEII gave Archie for Christmas after learning how much he loved waffles. Glad to see it’s getting good use.’
Another speculated: ‘I believe this is the waffle maker the Queen bought for Archie. Prove me wrong…’
The Duke of Sussex, 40, previously revealed that his grandmother Queen Elizabeth – who passed away in 2022 – had gifted his son a waffle maker, adding that it is one of the first things he asks for when waking up in the morning.
He appeared on the Late Late Show with British presenter James Corden in 2021 – one of the first interviews he agreed to since exiting the Firm and moving to the States with his young family.
When James asked Harry how he was finding fatherhood he gushed and revealed that Archie had the ‘most amazing personality’ before adding: ‘My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas and Meg said a waffle maker, she sent us a waffle maker for Archie.
‘So for breakfast, Meg makes up a beautiful, organic mix in the waffle maker, flips it, out it comes, he loves it.
‘Now I have waffles for breakfast, bit of yogurt, bit of jam on top, a bit of berries, little bit of honey, maybe some syrup.’
James Corden said he couldn’t wrap his head around the Queen ordering a waffle maker to be sent to Santa Barbara.
Harry laughed and said: ‘I don’t even know how to comment on that. Archie wakes up in the morning and literally just goes “Waffle?”‘
Also hidden in the video was a sneak peek at some of Meghan’s décor – including educational place mats for Archie and Lilibet, one of which featured an early-years version of the Periodic Table.
Meghan’s low-key St Patrick’s Day celebration came as the Princess of Wales attended the Irish Guards’ annual parade at Wellington Barracks in London.
