The View began their show today with one of their co-hosts missing from the Hot Topics discussion. Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin were present, but Sara Haines was notably absent, leaving her cheery presence unfelt.
Goldberg acknowledged Haines’ absence right at the start of the show and quickly transitioned to the main topic of the day – the release of Justice Department attorney Jack Smith’s report on Donald Trump’s election case.
In the previous episode featuring Haines, she engaged in a conversation with her co-hosts about Trump’s remarks regarding the Los Angeles wildfires. Additionally, the show welcomed guest Brooke Shields, who shared a humorous anecdote about the late Friends star Matthew Perry and a memorable prank he used to play on set.
“He would run and throw himself on the floor in front of a girl and pretend to look up her skirt,” Shields recalled, while telling The View hosts, “you’d get canceled today.”
Shields even tried her own version of the trick when she“ran so fast from one end of the stage all the way to the other, threw myself on the ground, and pretended to look up his pant leg. While “everybody was quiet” at first and Shields thought she looked “like a crazy person,” Perry appreciated the bit.
“He said, ‘How did you know to do that?’ And I said, ‘I’ve just been watching you and I just wanted to say thank you for giving us such humor.’ So it was really sweet,” Shields said.
Haines wasn’t around to chat with today’s celebrity guest Josh Gad, but we’re hoping she’ll be back soon. Here’s what we know about where she is and when she’ll return.
Haines was notably absent from the Hot Topics table this morning. The co-host was not around to chat about politics, pop culture or anything in between. While the show didn’t give a reason for her absence, DECIDER has reached out to The View for more information.
We likely (and hopefully!) won’t have to wait too long to see Haines again on the show. Goldberg told viewers this morning, “First things first: Sara is out today. We expect her back any day now.”
While she left it at that, it sounds like Haines will probably be back by the end of the week at the latest.
