Senate Democrats made a prolonged and somewhat comical attempt to delay the confirmation vote for Russ Vought as the head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). However, despite their efforts, President Trump succeeded in securing Vought’s confirmation. The final vote took place along party lines, with 53 Republicans voting in favor and 47 Democrats voting against.
The vote followed a 30-hour session on the Senate floor where Democrats showcased their confusion on how to navigate America’s current state. The session began after cloture was invoked, again split along party lines, and limited debate on Vought’s nomination to 30 hours. Refusing to allocate any debate time to their Republican counterparts, Democrats filled the hours with speeches criticizing Vought and the Trump administration.

Here’s a sampling of their mind-numbing rambles:
During one of the late-night speeches, freshman Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J., commented, “Russell Vought was born to make corruption safe again. Vought believes that all of the power in the executive branch belongs to the president and the president alone.”
And:
“Why doesn’t government run like a business?” [Sen. Brian] Schatz said, referring to questions asked by the “tech bros” now involved with the executive branch decision-making. “Let me tell you why: because if you ran government like a business, you would shut down every rural hospital. If you ran government like a business, you would actually not have a national transportation network.”
Since they don’t know how to govern and have very little power at this point, all the Democrat Party can do is complain and perform. Their ringleader right now seems to be Sen. Schatz from Hawaii, who earlier this week threatened to put a “blanket hold” on President Trump’s nominees if Elon Musk and DOGE didn’t stop its savage dismantling of USAID, also known as the Democrat Party’s favorite slush fund.

Here’s Schatz as he headed to the Senate floor to stall the Vought vote:
Yeah, this guy definitely has something to hide.
Democrats have good reason to fear Russ Vought and the continuing efforts of the Trump administration to root out corruption and waste in the federal government. RedState’s Streiff sums it up perfectly:
Vought was OMB director in Trump 1.0; he is a master of bureaucratic warfare and the federal budget. He can’t be intimidated. He’s also one of the leading lights of Project 2025, which seems to be happening despite Trump never having heard of it. He also will not put up with “resistance.”
It sounds like, now that he’s been confirmed, Vought will be a perfect complement to the DOGE-led mission of reducing the scope and size of the federal government. And the Democrats are pretty much powerless to stop any of it, but it sure is fun to watch them try.
