In a 5-4 decision, with Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, Jackson dissenting and Justice Barrett partially dissenting, the Court ruled in favor of President Trump’s ability to utilize the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelan gang members. The Court also nullified all orders issued by Judge James Boasberg, clearly signaling its dissatisfaction with the judge by stating that the “venue is improper in the District of Columbia.”
