Bryan Kohberger trial: Idaho student murders survivor draws mask intruder wore on night of stabbings

After a tragic home invasion killing four University of Idaho students, a survivor provided a hand-drawn sketch of the ski-mask-like face covering worn by the male intruder who entered her off-campus residence in November 2022. The drawing resembled a balaclava that the suspect reportedly purchased months prior to the incident.

The roommate, identified as DM in court records, stated that she had no acquaintance with the suspect, Bryan Kohberger. Despite being shown his arrest photo, she could not recognize him. However, she recounted seeing a masked individual with distinct features like “bushy eyebrows” and a physique resembling Kohberger’s inside the house shortly after the murders.

In another disclosed document, prosecutors alleged that Kohberger had obtained a black balaclava from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in January 2022.

The victims were Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20. The three young women were all roommates. Chapin lived nearby and was dating Kernodle.

Kohberger’s trial on four charges of first-degree murder and another of burglary is set to begin on Aug. 11. Jury selection is scheduled for July 30.

A previous judge entered not guilty pleas on Kohberger’s behalf at an arraignment in May 2023. He could face the death penalty if convicted.
