Police reported that an armed individual is still at large following a shooting at a mall in Waterbury, Connecticut. The incident took place on Tuesday, resulting in five individuals being shot.
Chief Fernando Spagnolo of the Waterbury Police Department informed the media that none of the victims suffered fatal injuries, and they were all taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Police were called to the Brass Mill Center Mall at about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they located five victims who were struck by gunfire.
He also said there is currently no danger to the public, though he advised anyone to report anything suspicious to the police.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont called the shooting “tragic” in a post on X.
“Earlier today, a tragic mass shooting occurred at the Bass Mill Center in Waterbury, a location that should be a safe environment for everyone. We appreciate the prompt response from law enforcement,” the governor stated. “Although more information is expected, the @CT_STATE_POLICEÂ will collaborate with @WaterburyPD in conducting the investigation. Our thoughts are with the Waterbury community, the victims, and their families impacted by this heartbreaking situation.”
