Taylor Swift fans melt down as she finally releases first Reputation (Taylor's Version) track in very surprising way

Taylor Swift’s fans got a thrilling surprise while watching the latest episode of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

The 35-year-old singer has finally debuted a song from her much-anticipated album, Reputation (Taylor’s Version). The track titled ‘Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)’ was featured in the opening scene of the ninth episode of season six on Monday.

The scene depicts Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne leading a revolt against the Commanders of Gilead.

Her fans were ecstatic, especially appreciating the episode’s rebellious theme as a poetic parallel to Taylor’s fight for her music rights.

Fans of Taylor Swift, known as Swifties, have been eagerly awaiting news about Reputation (Taylor’s Version) ever since it became eligible for re-recording in 2022. The original album was released back in 2017, and followers of the singer have been eager for this updated version.

Taylor’s Version albums are re-recorded versions of her first six studio albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation.

The star has been e-recording the albums to own the master recordings and have greater control over her music, after the originals were sold without her consent.

One fan wrote on X: ‘Taylor: Reclaims music rights. Also Taylor: Soundtracks a rebellion. Us: Standing, clapping, crying.’

‘Old Label: “You’ll never own your masters.” Taylor in Gilead: “Look what you made me do…’ someone else joked.

‘OMG WE ARE EXCITED FINALLY,’ another chimed in.

‘OMGGGG MOTHERRR Rep tv is coming and it sounds so good.’

‘Taylor in The Handmaid’s Tale?? I did not have that on my 2025 bingo card, but I’m so here for it.’

Elisabeth revealed how the moment came about, telling Billboard, ‘I’ve been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her, and I’m so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment.’

‘Taylor has been such an inspiration to me personally. As a Swiftie myself, and I think I can speak for [co-star] Yvonne [Strahovski] and our entire cast as well, who are all Swifties, it’s such an honor to be able to use her music in the final episodes of our show.’

‘I said to my editor, Wendy, “I really want to find a place for a Taylor track in the last 2 episodes of the show” and we wanted to find a music queue for the opening of 9, and all the credit goes to Wendy for picking this track for this moment!’

This feature offers a significant first taste of Reputation (Taylor’s Version), as it presents the complete first and second verses and two choruses of ‘Look What You Made Me Do.’

Released in 2017, Look What You Made Me Do launched Swift’s edgy Reputation era.

The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, while the album led the Billboard 200 for four.

So far, all four of the re-recordings Taylor has released — Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — have debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Aside from Reputation, the 14-time Grammy winner has yet to re-record her self-titled 2007 debut album as part of her ongoing mission to reclaim the rights to her masters.

With two years approaching since the October release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), fans are increasingly eager for the next re-recorded album.

Swift has offered only a few teases regarding the re-release of Reputation.

A snippet of the re-recorded ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ was featured in an episode of Apple TV+’s The Dynasty: New England Patriots in March 2024.

And ‘Delicate (Taylor’s Version)’ was featured in Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty in August 2023.

Many Swifties believe she’ll announce something significant, possibly a release date, at the American Music Awards on Memorial Day (May 26).
