The initial medical examiner involved in the investigation of Ellen Greenberg’s death, a Philadelphia educator who died in 2011 under suspicious circumstances with numerous stab wounds and bruises, has altered the original suicide determination for the very first time. This significant change comes as Greenberg’s parents face their most crucial legal battle.
Ellen Greenberg, aged 27 at the time, was discovered in her kitchen on January 26, 2011, amidst a blizzard, with 20 stab wounds and a knife in her chest, while a partially prepared fruit salad sat on the countertop.
A recent ruling by a judge now allows the lawsuit filed in 2022 by her parents, Dr. Josh and Sandee Greenberg, against the city of Philadelphia to proceed to trial. This marks a pivotal step forward in the case, as confirmed by Joseph Podraza, the legal counsel representing the Greenbergs, in a statement to Fox News Digital.

In addition to their latest lawsuit, the Greenbergs previously filed another lawsuit in 2019, aiming to have the designation of “suicide” on her death certificate replaced with “homicide” or “undetermined.” That case is pending before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Philadelphia police did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. They have previously declined to discuss the case, citing the ongoing civil litigation. Goldberg did not immediately respond for comment.Â
