Senior U.S. District Judge Lee H. Rosenthal has ruled against the enforcement of the Texas A&M University System board of regents’ ban on drag shows. In a bold move, Rosenthal has mandated that an event known as “Draggieland” must be permitted to take place at a university venue later this week.
“Defendants … must allow the Draggieland performance to proceed as planned on March 27, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., at the Rudder Theatre,” stated Rosenthal in her order.
The decision to grant a preliminary injunction follows a challenge from the Queer Empowerment Council at Texas A&M University, the organizers of “Draggieland,” against the ban imposed by the Texas A&M University System board of regents.

The resolution states that “given that both the System and the Universities receive significant federal funding, the use of facilities at the Universities for Drag Show Events may be considered promotion of gender ideology in violation of the Executive Order and the Governor’s directive.”
