'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' is back and as emotional as ever

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is back, helping deserving families turn dream homes into reality.

Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, the new hosts of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” expressed their excitement about bringing elements such as heart, surprise, reveal, emotion, tears, joy, and family into the show. In an interview with On The Red Carpet’s Garin Flowers, they shared their passion for incorporating these meaningful aspects into their work.

“We’re still moving buses, but it’s nice to kind of add our own personal spin on a classic.”

Renowned for their expertise in home organization through their brand The Home Edit, Shearer and Teplin have perfected the art of transforming spaces. Having worked with high-profile clients like Khloe Kardashian, Reese Witherspoon, and Molly Sims, they have established themselves as leading figures in the industry, having extended their reach through books, TV shows, and product lines. Their transition to “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” signifies a new chapter in their career.

One of the standout features of the show, according to Shearer, is the Edit Zone, which serves as the focal point of each episode. Here, the team systematically removes all items from the family’s current living space, presenting them in a large area room by room. This process not only facilitates a physical transformation but also leads to significant emotional breakthroughs, creating a deeply poignant experience for the families involved.

Along for the ride are interior designer Arianne Bellizaire and “Survivor” season 36 winner and furniture designer Wendell Holland. They tell On The Red Carpet the stories will definitely tug at the heartstrings of viewers.

“These families represent every walk of life. Some families might resonate more with me or with Arianne. But every family, it hits you- you are emotional every time,” Holland said.

“By the time we’ve gotten to move that bus, I can’t even explain the exhilaration of that moment because it’s not just that we have the community cheering for it, it’s that you know that you are a small part of changing a family’s life and that gets us every time,” Bellizaire added.

“I’m gonna cry just thinking about it!”

Laugh, cry and enjoy the new “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” when it premieres January 2 on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of this ABC station.
