Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, is scheduled to meet with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday to discuss cooperation between federal authorities and the NYPD in targeting known criminal aliens in New York City, particularly members of the Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela, a source informed Fox News.
The meeting follows the dropping of a corruption case against Adams by federal authorities initiated during the Biden-Harris administration, which the mayor claimed was in response to his opposition to a lenient border policy that led to a large influx of illegal immigrants into New York. Adams has refuted any wrongdoing and recently met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
Homan said he’s hoping he can reach an agreement with the mayor where the NYPD helps remove known threats to public safety.
One potential point of consensus could be the potential reinstatement of an office for Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Rikers Island, the city’s primary jail, an idea that was proposed during a previous discussion between Homan and Adams, as reported by local sources.
“If you don’t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable,” Bondi said. “We did it to Illinois, strike one. Strike two is New York. And if you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next. Get ready.”
Hochul, who narrowly won re-election over Republican Lee Zeldin in a deeply Democrat state, called it a publicity stunt.
ICE said Thursday that its crackdown in the Big Apple was already helping make the streets of New York safer after a joint operation nabbed multiple gang members, drug traffickers and other “dangerous criminals.”
