Golden Globes 2025 most viral moments

The 2025 Golden Globes handed out gongs to Emilia Perez, Wicked and Demi Moore on Sunday night.

But away from the prizes, it was awkward moments, on-stage gaffes and incendiary speeches that got fans talking.

The event took place at the prestigious Beverly Hilton Hotel, marking the beginning of the 2025 awards season. Just like any other star-studded live show, it was filled with surprising moments from Hollywood’s elite.

Here, DailyMail.com runs down the biggest viral moments of the night…

ZOE SALDANA ‘CRASHES’ GOLDEN GLOBES STAGE

Emilia Perez star Zoe Saldana left fans baffled when she rushed onstage during the presentation for Best Original Song.

During the ceremony, actors Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh were on stage to announce the winners. The award was set to go to French musicians Clément Ducol and Camille for their song El Mal for Emilia Pérez, a piece that Zoe had sung and contributed to arranging.

In an unexpected turn of events, as the musicians were making their way to the stage to accept the award, Zoe jumped on stage as well. She then proceeded to take the award from Goldblum and Yeoh, seemingly wanting to present it herself.

Fans took to social media to question the ’embarrassing’ move before calling Zoe ‘disrespectful’ for ‘taking attention away from the composers.’

One fan wrote: ‘Why is Zoe Saldana on the stage? I know she won (and I do like her) but she really needs to sit down. #GoldenGlobes

‘Her rambling speech was bad enough, but this is just cringe (and disrespectful TBH).’

Others wrote: ‘Totally, that was soooo weird and wrong. She wanted to be the star there. The whole Emilia Pérez crew are selfish and self centered.’

‘She took the focus off the winners in what should have been their moment.’

Ducol and Camille shrugged off the bizarre incident as they even gave Zoe a shout-out in their acceptance speech.

Later Zoe said she had made a blunder by getting up onstage when she wasn’t supposed to, but claimed co-star Selena Gomez and Yeoh told her to.

Zoe won Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for her turn in Emilia Perez.

THE ROCK AND VIN DIESEL HAVE AWKWARD MOMENT

Vin Diesel and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had an awkward moment at the ceremony, years after they clashed on the set of 2017’s The Fate of the Furious.

Diesel appeared onstage to present the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award’ but before he began his speech, he eyed Johnson and said: ‘Hi Dwayne.’

Diesel, 57, and Johnson, 52, had starred in Fast Five, Furious 6 and The Fate of the Furious, though Johnson made headlines for a post calling out one of his co-stars he did not name, though it was later confirmed to be Diesel.

Their beef resulted in Johnson essentially leaving the main franchise, moving on to film the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw with Jason Statham.

All these years later, there’s no indication if the beef between them has simmered, though it’s worth noting Johnson has still not returned to the franchise.

While Johnson just laughed it off, some even thought it could have lead to a situation similar to Will Smith’s slap of Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022.

Jodie Foster’s triumphant fifth win at the 2025 Golden Globes was momentarily interrupted by a playful heckle from a fellow nominee.

The Silence of the Lambs star, 62, won for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her role as police chief Liz Danvers in True Detective: Night Country.

However, her fellow nominee Sofía Vergara, 52, who portrayed the infamous ‘Cocaine Godmother’ Griselda Blanco in the series Griselda, heckled the Hollywood icon as she got up onstage.

As the announcer told the crowd that it was Foster’s ’10th nomination and fifth win’ Vergara was pictured rising up from her seat and approaching the stage as she exclaimed, ‘Oh no, give me one!’

‘I know, I know,’ Jodie replied while chuckling, as she acknowledged Vergara’s good-natured jest.

The camera then cut to Sofia’s face, who looked momentarily serious before breaking into a laugh.

SELENA BLUSHES WITH BENNY AFTER JOKE ABOUT ROMANCE

Selena Gomez found herself blushing after Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser made an awkward joke about their romance.

The 32-year-old singer and actress and the 36-year-old record producer have been romantically linked since June 2023.

Gomez announced that they were engaged back in December, though it’s unclear when the couple plan on tying the knot.

The actress was at the Golden Globes for her dual nominations for Netflix’s Emilia Perez and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

During her opening monologue, the 40-year-old Glaser poked some fun at the newly-engaged couple.

‘A double nominee tonight for Emelia Perez and Only Murders, and she’s here with her new fiance, Benny Blanco. And Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish,’ Glazer said as Gomez and Blanco both awkwardly laughed.

Blanco then gave her a kiss on her bare shoulder before Glazer added, ‘Man, lucky guy,’ as she proceeded to poke fun at movie.

‘I love you. Selena, you are so good in Emilia Perez. I loved it so much. Emilia Perez, yes. Emilia Perez earned ten nominations for Netflix, and I loved it. I think it is without a doubt the most audacious, groundbreaking film to ever autoplay after Is it Cake,’ Glazer joked.

DEMI MOORE BECOMES FIRST TIME WINNER AT 62

Demi sent a powerful message with her acceptance speech as she took home Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for her work in The Substance – marking her first major award win.

She said: ‘I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m just in shock right now. I’ve been doing this a long time, like over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor and I’m just so humbled and so grateful.’

Recalling how she was once branded a ‘popcorn actress’ she said: ‘At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have.

‘And I bought in and I believed that and that corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete, maybe I’ve done what I was supposed to do.

‘(Then) I had this magical, bold, courageous, out of the box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you’re not done.’

GLEN POWELL AND TIMOTHEE CHALAMET MEET THEIR LOOKALIKES

Glen Powell had the chance to meet his very own lookalike on the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Max Braunstein, who also hails from Powell’s hometown of Austin, Texas, was crowned the winner of a local Austin contest with the help of Powell’s own mother back in November.

Braunstein got to speak with Powell over Facetime after the win, but the star and his lookalike got to meet in person on the Golden Globes red carpet (via E! X).

Powell gave Braunstein a hug as they posed for selfies and the actor brought over his mom for a quick chat.

Braunstein also hit the red carpet with another lookalike – Miles Mitchell – who won a Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest in New York City back in October.

Mitchell also reunited on the red carpet with Chalamet, who, like Powell, is up for a Golden Globe on Sunday night.

ZENDAYA SPARKS ENGAGEMENT RUMORS TO TOM HOLLAND

Zendaya set tongues wagging after she flashed a massive sparkler on her ring finger.

The 28-year-old superstar, who has been in a romance with Spider-Man co-star Tom Holland since 2021, seemed to have more to celebrate than just her acting nomination for Challengers at the star-studded event.

While her burnt tangerine Louis Vuitton gown and her new bob hairstyle certainly turned heads, it was the dazzling accessory on her left hand that had everyone talking.

A stunning solitaire diamond glistened on her finger, leaving fans wondering if Holland—who did not attend the event—had finally popped the question.

One fan humorously wrote, ‘My mom says Zendaya is wearing an engagement ring, can we get fact-checkers on this?’

However, fans were truly sent into a frenzy when many noticed what appeared to be a small tattoo of the letter ‘t’ near the top of her left ribcage.

‘Zendaya showing off a supposed engagement ring and a “t” tattoo wasn’t on my golden globes bingo card but I’m loving it,’ read a tweet.

Another excited follower commented, ‘Cancel the golden globes until someone figures out if Zendaya is wearing an engagement ring!!!!’

EMMA STONE GETS THE CHOP

Emma Stone showed off a brand new look as she arrived at the ceremony.

The double Oscar winner, 36, ditched her flowing and signature red tresses for a short do reminiscent of Mia Farrow’s close cropped locks in Rosemary’s Baby.

The star matched the red carpet in a strapless scarlet gown with a satin bow, with light make-up offsetting her dramatic new look.

HOST NIKKI GLASER SHOCKS WITH OPENING MONOLOGUE

Nikki Glaser roasted Hollywood in her explosive 2025 Golden Globe Awards opening monologue  – dropping shock jokes about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The comedian, 40, who was hosting the glittering awards show for the first time, left the superstar audience and viewers reeling as she mentioned the disgraced star’s ‘freak-offs’ and the viral 1,000 bottles of baby oil claims.

Glaser also made reference to Trump’s presidential election victory – despite Hollywood’s overwhelming support for Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris as well as a sex joke about Ben Affleck.

She said: ‘Some of you may know me as a stand up comedian, and from my appearances on roasts. But I’m not here to roast you. I want you to know that. How could I, really? You’re also famous, so talented, so powerful. You can really do anything, except tell the country who to vote for, but it’s okay.’

The reference about Diddy came as Glaser made mention of Zendaya, as she said, ‘Zendaya is here – Zendaya, you were incredible in Dune. Oh, my God, I woke up for all of your scenes. You were so good.

‘And Challengers, girl? Oh, my God, that was so good. That movie was more sexually charged than Diddy’s credit card.’

Glaser continued: ‘I’m sorry, I’m upset, too. The afterparty isn’t gonna be as good this year. But we have to move on – “Stanley Tucci freak-off” doesn’t have the same ring to it – no baby oil this year, just lots of olive oil.’

The joke about Kennedy, Trump’s health secretary nominee, centered on the activist’s admitted dietary quirks.

She joked, ‘The Bear, The Penguin, Baby Reindeer – these are not just things found in RFK’s freezer!’

Reactions on social media were mixed to the topics and punchlines the comedian – who stood out at last year’s Tom Brady roast – delivered on the huge stage in Los Angeles to open the new year.

ZENDAYA’S RESPONSE TO BENNY BLANCO GOES VIRAL

Zendaya’s hilarious reaction to seeing Selena Gomez’s fiance Benny Blanco at the 2025 Golden Globes is going viral.

It all happened during a brief break in the three-hour awards ceremony when the Challengers star got up from her seat to mingle with other nominees/attendees.

And in a clip shared by The Hollywood Reporter to X (formerly Twitter), Benny and Selena — who got engaged last month — could be seen creeping up behind Zendaya while her back was turned.

When Zendaya finally noticed Blanco in her vicinity, her eyes appeared to widen and she flashed a nervous smile.

She briefly exchanged words with the couple as they carefully made their way around the train of Zendaya’s billowing gown while holding hands.

Fans quickly flocked to social media to react to the awkward moment, with some claiming Zendaya looked ‘completely terrified’ of Blanco.

FERNANDA TORRES BEATS ANGELINA TO BEST ACTRESS

The night’s most shocking moment certainly came when Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres triumphed over A-listers Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, and Pamela Anderson in the Best Actress — Drama category for I’m Still Here.

Torres dedicated her Golden Globe win to her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who was nominated in 1999 for Central Station.

Montenegro was the first Brazilian actress to be nominated with Torres’ win making her the first Brazilian actress to triumph in the category.

She said in her acceptance speech: ‘I didn’t prepare anything because I was glad already. And this is such an amazing year for female performances, so many actresses here that I admire so much… I want to dedicate it to my mother. She was here 25 years ago.

‘And this is like a proof that art can endure through life, even in difficult moments like this amazing story. … There’s something that is happening now in the world with so much fear. And this is a film that helped us to think how to survive in tough times like this.’

KYLIE AND TIMOTHEE RETURN TO THE GOLDEN GLOBES

Kylie Jenner was every inch the proud girlfriend as she joined Timotheé Chalamet for a rare public outing.

The Kardashians star, 27, skipped the red carpet but was sat next to the Dune actor, 29, inside the swanky event at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, proving their romance is continuing to flourish.

At one point the mom-of-two planted a kiss on her boyfriend as his hand gently rested on her lower back, mirroring their PDA from last year’s ceremony.

The lip kit mogul cut a busty figure in a low-cut metallic Versace silver dress, and wore her raven tresses cascading in bouncy loose locks.

The camera cut to the pair during Nikki Glaser’s opening monologue, where she praised Timotheé for his performance as Bob Dylan in his latest film, A Complete Unknown.
