HINCKLEY (WLS) — A pilot was killed and a toddler was injured in a plane crash Saturday just past the west suburbs, officials said.

The crash happened in a farm field just west of Hinckley Airfield, 12747 US-30, in Hinckley, Illinois, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said.
The pilot, a 51-year-old person from Maple Park, was killed in the crash. Their gender and identity were not yet known.
A 3-year-old child was injured in a plane crash and taken to two hospitals for treatment. The child’s condition was reported as stable following the incident.
The plane that crashed was a single-engine 1946 Aeronca 7 AC.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
Authorities from multiple departments responded to a plane crash at Hinckley Airfield in Illinois. The crash involved a 1946 Aeronca 7 AC single engine plane carrying a 51-year-old pilot and the 3-year-old child. Sadly, the pilot, whose identity is being kept confidential until family members are notified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The child, on the other hand, was first taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb and then transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where they were reported to be in stable condition. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation into the crash to determine its cause.
