Keeping track of the many nomination announcements from the Trump-Vance transition team has been quite a task as President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his second administration. It’s a challenge to compile a complete list of all the nominations.
On Wednesday, Trump issued another slew of announcements, including the head of NASA and Secretary of the Army.
Among those, Trump tapped Missouri’s own former Congressman and auctioneer-extraordinaire Billy Long (R) to serve as IRS Commissioner.
Exciting news! Former Congressman Billy Long from Missouri is set to become the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). With 32 years of experience in Real Estate and as a top Auctioneer, plus 12 years in Congress, Billy’s background is solid. His decision to run for Congress stemmed from his belief in representing constituents with firsthand business experience.
After his congressional tenure, Billy transitioned to advising on business and tax matters, assisting small businesses in navigating IRS regulations. Known for his hard work ethic and respect from colleagues, Billy is praised by many in Congress. Both taxpayers and IRS staff are likely to appreciate his leadership, given his reputation as a personable and respected individual across party lines.
Congratulations Billy!
Long, 69, hails from Springfield, in southwestern Missouri. Following a career in auctioneering and talk radio, Long won the House seat vacated by Roy Blunt when he moved on to the Senate in 2011. Long then ran for Blunt’s vacated Senate seat in 2022 but lost in the primary to Eric Schmitt.
Following the announcement regarding his new role, Long shared his delight with the appointment on X in his trademark cheeky fashion. His current pinned tweet:
I will not be issuing a blanket pardon, but I will be issuing a blanket thank you because I can’t keep up with all of you as fast as my phone is blowing up. Thank you. Let’s get to work! 👍👍🇺🇸
