He suggested that homeowners should be allowed to start cleaning up the debris immediately without unnecessary delays caused by state approval.

MAYOR KAREN BASS: No. You can hold me to that.

BASS: No.

TRUMP: They need to start tonight.

BASS: That [delay] will not be the case. But you know first, we have to get rid of hazardous waste. We are expediting everything. We need your help.

During the exchange, President Trump assured homeowners that they would face no issues with permits and there would be no delays. He expressed concern after meeting with several groups of homeowners who shared their frustrations about having to wait for up to 18 months to begin clearing the debris. He questioned the need for defining hazardous waste and the lengthy approval process.
