Oh, by the Way, Trump Has Officially Won the Electoral College Vote

Although the presidential election results were already known early on November 6, Tuesday marked the formal gathering of the Electoral College to vote for the president and vice president, as outlined in section 3 of the U.S. Code.

Each state and the District of Columbia convened their certified electors starting with Maryland and concluding with Hawaii.

While Pennsylvania played a crucial role in securing Trump’s victory on Election Night, it was Texas that sealed the deal for Trump on Tuesday, ensuring his success.

While Trump won the election on November 5, his victory was formalized Tuesday as presidential electors gathered across the country as part of the constitutional process to officially elect a President known as the Electoral College.

Of note, unlike the election of 2016, there were no “faithless electors” in 2024.

The final national totals matched the results from November’s election: President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance each won 312 votes and Harris and Walz each won 226.

Next up?

They will take office at noon on January 20, 2025.
