Following former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation hearing last week, concerns arose regarding her ability to secure enough support from the nine Republican members of the Senate Intelligence Committee to progress her nomination for Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to a full vote.
Despite performing well during the hearing despite facing harsh criticism from some Democrats on the committee, certain GOP Senators were reportedly unsure about aspects such as her visit to Syria in 2017 and her reluctance to label former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden as a “traitor.”
Although not a member of the committee, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) – a supporter of Gabbard – expressed his concerns in an interview with Fox News after the hearing, stating, “I am troubled by some of the feedback from my fellow Republican senators. I fear that her nomination could be at risk.”
