Thursday Morning Minute: The Two Faces of Liz

TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

Red-Hot at RedState

Some individuals are eager to display dominance and act tough, yet when faced with the repercussions of their misconduct, they quickly seek to evade accountability.

CBS had significantly damaged its reputation through incidents like the edited interview of Kamala Harris on “60 Minutes,” casting doubts on any remaining credibility they may have had.

I think the implication here is that mainstream media journalists don’t want this stuff to come out because they were in the cover-up.

Trending Across Townhall Media

Despite being a Republican, Gov. Ivey has shown an unusual obsession with firearms. While many of the proposed regulations aim to address criminal behavior, perhaps it is worth considering shifting focus towards initiatives focused on preventing crime instead.

Could be a serious house cleaning coming.

The original slogan of the Western provinces lobbying for their share of political authority and economic substance, coined by Manning, was “The West Wants In.” Now it sounds a lot more like “The West Wants Out.”

Nothing Democrats hurl against us works. We’re winning. We’re in charge.

We immediately thought Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren was communicating by smoke signal, but checked her schedule and she was not near Kansas on Wednesday.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

There have certainly been some rather…interesting exchanges during committee hearings this week on the Hill. There are a handful more set for Thursday:

  • House Appropriations, Department of Homeland Security Subcommittee — Oversight Hearing – The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency
  • House Armed Services, Cyber, Information Technologies, and Innovation Subcommittee — Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Posture of the Department of Defense
  • Senate Appropriations, Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee — Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates for fiscal year 2026 for the Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI Director Kash Patel to testify]
  • Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation — Hearings to examine winning the AI race, focusing on strengthening United States capabilities in computing and innovation [OpenAI’s Sam Altman is one of the witnesses]
  • Senate Appropriations, Department of Homeland Security Subcommittee — Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates for fiscal year 2026 for the Department of Homeland Security [DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to testify]
  • House Foreign Affairs, Western Hemisphere Subcommittee — Spread Freedom, Not Woke Values: An American Agenda for Democracy and Human Rights

White House What’s Up

President Donald Trump teased late Wednesday that there would be a big trade announcement on Thursday morning. That’s set for 10 AM Eastern. (We now know it involves the UK — and, as Trump indicates, it’s the “first of many.”) At noon, he and First Lady Melania will participate in a Celebration of Military Mothers.

Vice President JD Vance spoke at the Munich Leaders Meeting on Wednesday.

Full Court Press…

The court rulings so far this week have been a bit of a mixed bag. There were the positives:

And then…the not-so-positives:

And that big ruling from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals over the weekend regarding the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) cases…just hit a snag, which I’ll be detailing a bit later this morning.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

President Trump will be gearing up for his Middle East trip next week.

We’ve got his big announcement this morning regarding a trade deal with the UK, followed by meetings over the weekend between Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Rep. Jamieson Greer and Chinese negotiators in Switzerland.

There’s also the “earth-shattering” announcement that Trump teased earlier in the week. (Was that about the UK trade deal? He said it wasn’t about trade, so…hard to say.)

MORNING MUSING

I have a long, complicated history with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — it was her dubious claims regarding her heritage and subsequent ridiculous stunt regarding her DNA testing that prompted me to do my own DNA dive, which, in turn, led to the happy discovery of some bonus family members (along with confirmation that I have twice as much Native American ancestry as she does). But that’s not where I’m going with this.

Remember the movie “Dances With Wolves”? The wolf who befriends Kevin Costner’s John Dunbar in the movie was affectionately known as “Two Socks.” Well, I think we could apply a similar nickname to Sen. Warren: “Two Faces.” Below is just one example of Warren changing her tune depending on the circumstance. (And yes, she’s far from alone in this — this is just a shining example of political duplicity.)

LIGHTER FARE

Okay, I’m glad we’re done with snow for now, but this looks fun!
