Putin Assassination Escalations Debate Explained

Last Updated on May 27, 2025

Ukraine’s assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin, involving drones targeting his helicopter over the Kursk region, has sparked escalations in the conflict on May 26, 2025.

Specifically, this reckless action by Kyiv, combined with Russia’s retaliatory strike of 298 drones and 69 missiles across Ukraine, killing at least 12 people, including three children, has intensified the situation.

Consequently, the attempt, alongside 50,000 Russian troops near Kharkiv, fuels the Putin assassination escalations debate.

InfoWars Blames Zelensky for Escalation Tactics

Chase Geiser on InfoWars blames Zelensky for the escalation, stating,

Currently, a significant escalation is happening in Russia with approximately 50,000 soldiers gathering near Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine also known as Fortress City. This city lies on the eastern border of Russia.

Moreover, Geiser criticizes Zelensky’s approach, noting,

The situation involves Putin and Zelensky, with both sides not engaging in peaceful negotiations. Due to this, Putin is intensifying the conflict to pressure the Zelensky administration, which is described as having a harsh and dictatorial approach.

Consequently, the Putin assassination escalations debate questions Ukraine’s war ethics. Watch the InfoWars video.

Trump Voices Concern Over Escalation

Donald Trump’s recent interview, posted by a video source, adds to the Putin assassination escalations debate. Trump stated,

“I’m not happy with what Putin’s doing. He’s killing a lot of people and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him a long time. Always gotten along with him. But he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people and I don’t like it at all. Okay? We’re in the middle of talking and he’s shooting rockets into Kiev and other cities. I don’t like it at all.”

President Trump was then asked what he’s going to do about the situation, to which he responded,

“I’m surprised. I’m very surprised. We’ll see what we’re going to do. What am I going to tell you? You’re the fake news, aren’t you? You’re totally fake. Alright, any other questions? I don’t like what Putin is doing, not even a little bit. He’s killing people. And something happened to this guy and I don’t like it.”

Therefore, Trump’s comments indirectly highlight Ukraine’s role in provoking the escalation. Watch the video:

Russian Military Commander and Drone Strike Highlight Ukraine’s Role

RT interviewed a Russian military commander, highlighting Ukraine’s role in the escalation. The commander stated,

“From May 20 to 22, the enemy attempted a massive strike using unmanned aerial vehicles on Russian territory. During this period, 1,177 enemy drones were destroyed. During the attack, President Putin was working in the Kursk region. The intensity of the attack increased significantly during the flight of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s aircraft over the Kursk region. We simultaneously conducted anti-aircraft combat and ensured the safety of the presidential helicopter in the air. The task was accomplished. The enemy drone attack was repelled, and all air targets were hit.”

Indeed, the Putin assassination escalations debate questions international law, as Geiser noted,

“My intuition from was it the Geneva Conventions or something like that was that one of the rules of war is that you don’t attack a head of state directly.”

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported,

“Russia carried out its largest air raid in three years of war, with a second straight night of massive drone and ballistic missile strikes killing at least 12 people, including three children.”

This intensification, blamed on Ukraine’s actions under Zelensky, defies calls for peace, further complicating the Ukraine-Putin conflict debate. Read more on Russia’s drone attack from the Wall Street Journal.
