An Airbnb rented by the 42-year-old ISIS convert Shamsud-Din Jabbar is now at the center of a police investigation, as authorities suspect he tried to burn it down on purpose to hide evidence.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was residing in an Airbnb on Mandeville Street where materials for making bombs were discovered, according to a joint statement from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Authorities also found similar materials at Jabbar’s residence in Houston.
Following the deadly incident on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day, New Orleans firefighters were called to the Airbnb property around 5:20 a.m. The ATF concluded that Jabbar was the only individual who had access to the residence at the time the fire was started.
“ATF also determined that Jabbar set a small fire in the hallway, and strategically placed accelerants throughout the house in his effort to destroy it and other evidence of his crime,” the statement said. “After Jabbar left the residence, the fire burned to a point that it extinguished itself, prior to spreading to other rooms.”
