Luigi Nicholas Mangione was taken into custody on Monday for the assault on Thompson on December 4. Police were notified by an employee at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, who recognized a customer resembling the suspected shooter. Mangione was found with a firearm believed to be the one used in the attack, as well as writings expressing frustration towards corporate America.

When asked about the report, SFPD referred ABC News to the NYPD.

Besides this incident, Mangione had ties to the Bay Area. According to ABC7 News I-Team reporter Dan Noyes, Mangione served as a lead counselor at Stanford in 2019. He had previously attended a prestigious high school in Baltimore and obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Pennsylvania.

After his time at Stanford, Mangione headed off to a job in computer programming.
