President-elect Donald Trump has made several selections for various Cabinet and administration positions since his election. Notably, some of these picks are for brand new roles within the government.
One such new position is the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), which has been receiving a lot of attention. While it’s not technically a part of the government, it will operate as a consulting entity with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy at the helm, along with legal counsel provided by Bill McGinley.
There’s also the newly established “National Energy Council,” which Interior Secretary pick North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum is slated to lead.
Additionally, the position of Border Czar has been reinstated with Tom Homan taking on the role. This comes after Vice President Kamala Harris briefly held a similar position in the Biden administration, only to no longer serve in that capacity.
Now, there’s a new role to add to the mix: “White House AI & Crypto Czar.” On Thursday evening, Trump announced that he was naming entrepreneur/investor David Sacks to the position, announcing via Truth Social:
I am pleased to announce that David O. Sacks will be the “White House A.I. & Crypto Czar.” In this important role, David will guide policy for the Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness. David will focus on making America the clear global leader in both areas. He will safeguard Free Speech online, and steer us away from Big Tech bias and censorship. He will work on a legal framework so the Crypto industry has the clarity it has been asking for, and can thrive in the U.S. David will also lead the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology…
…David Sacks has been an extremely successful entrepreneur and investor for 25 years, building and investing in some of the most iconic companies in Silicon Valley. He was PayPal’s founding-era COO, part of the legendary “PayPal Mafia.” David then founded enterprise software company, Yammer, which was acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 Billion Dollars. Subsequently he founded Craft Ventures, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco. David is co-host of the All-In Podcast, the top podcast in Tech, where he and his friends discuss economic, political and social issues.
David has the knowledge, business experience, intelligence, and pragmatism to MAKE AMERICA GREAT in these two critical technologies. Congratulations, David!
Sacks, 52, hosted the June fundraiser for Trump in Silicon Valley that hauled in $12 million for the campaign. He spoke at the Republican National Convention and gave a full-throated endorsement of the Trump-Vance ticket.
As Trump notes in his announcement, he views AI and crypto as critical to the nation remaining competitive. It’s smart to tap someone with vision and know-how to help lead on those fronts.
