Village People Tee-up Possible Trump Inauguration Performance

Last Updated on December 17, 2024

Founding member of the Village People, Victor Willis, told Fox & Friends First Thursday that he is now up for performing the group’s infamous song “YMCA” at President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.Watch the latest video at foxnews.com

I chose to allow the president-elect to keep using the song ‘YMCA’ because he appears to genuinely enjoy it, especially when other artists were refusing to let him use their music.

Actor Bruce Willis had been critical of Donald Trump using “YMCA” at his rallies for many years. Some believe that the song, often associated with the LGBTQ community, contradicts the president-elect’s values.

Village People’s “YMCA” hit number one, according to Billboard.com.

Despite this, Willis decided not to interfere with the political license granted by Broadcast Music, Inc. He believed that Trump’s inclusion of ‘YMCA’ was bringing joy to many Americans, especially with his entertaining dance moves that became a hit on social media.

Willis added that Trump’s use of the song he co-wrote led to a sales spike 46 years after its original release. The pivot of opinion comes after he condemned Trump’s use of “Macho Man,” another Village People hit. Willis said then that he would prefer the music to be “kept out of politics.”

He told Fox that the Village People would probably not perform at the inauguration but that the group is grateful for his work for “YMCA.”

… The song has actually gone back to number one [in sales], and it’s still number one today, so if he were to ask the Village People to perform the song live for him, we’d have to seriously consider it.

Willis pointed out the financial gains, saying, “YMCA is estimated to have grossed several million dollars since the President-elect’s continued use … I’m glad I allowed the President-elect’s continued use of ‘YMCA.’ And I thank him for choosing to use my song.”

Willis, on Facebook, wrote against detractors like CNN, insisting the song isn’t a “gay anthem.”

Come January 2025, my wife will start suing each and every news organization that falsely refers to YMCA, either in their headlines or alluded to in the base of the story, that YMCA is somehow a gay anthem because such notion is based solely on the song’s lyrics alluding to elicit [sic] activity for which it does not.

He argued that the line “you can hang out with all the boys” is “simply 1970s black slang for black guys hanging out together for sports, gambling or whatever. There’s nothing gay about that.”

Left-wing media continues to surge articles attempting to slam Willis for his recent comments in an attempt to subjugate any subtle humanizing of President-elect Trump.
