Our Tuesday nights are missing a visit from an old friend: The Rookie.
In May, the season seven finale of the well-known show starring Nathan Fillion aired on ABC. Fans are now curious about what Season 8 of The Rookie has in store. Showrunner Alexi Hawley shared insights with TVLine on a potential storyline involving Wesley (played by Shawn Ashmore) running for DA.
Hawley revealed, “We’re exploring options for that plotline, and it would be a natural progression for Wesley, who previously worked as a defense attorney and is passionate about fixing the flaws in the justice system. As an assistant DA, he has limited authority, so becoming the DA would empower him to make significant changes. We are considering this idea seriously.”
When exactly does The Rookie return with new episodes? Here’s everything we know.
Nope. The season finale of The Rookie aired Tuesday, May 13 on ABC.
Tonight’s ABC primetime schedule consists of back-to-back-to-back reruns of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET.
The seventh season of The Rookie consists of 18 total episodes.
Yes! ABC renewed The Rookie for an eighth season back in April 2025. Per Deadline, the upcoming season is expected to consist of 18 episodes.
Regrettably, The Rookie is not included in ABC’s fall schedule for 2025. Similar to the previous season, the network plans to air The Rookie and Will Trent in the midseason lineup. While an official premiere date has yet to be announced, Season 8 of The Rookie has already begun filming and is anticipated to make its return in January 2026.
You bet! Every episode of The Rookie is streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
If you’re new to Hulu, you can get started with a 30-day free trial on the streamer’s basic (with ads) plan. After the trial period, you’ll pay $9.99/month. If you want to upgrade to Hulu ad-free, it costs $18.99/month.
If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the Disney+ Bundles, all of which include Hulu. These bundles start at $10.99/month for ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu and goes up to $29.99/month for Disney+, Hulu, and Max, all ad-free.
