If you’re excitedly anticipating the upcoming season of “I Think You Should Leave,” then you should not miss out on watching the new film by Tim Robinson, “Friendship,” set to be available on digital platforms starting tomorrow.
Directed and written by Andrew DeYoung in his debut as a feature film director, “Friendship” is an unconventional comedy featuring Robinson in the lead role as a man whose life takes a turn when he strikes up a friendship with his trendy new neighbor, Austin (portrayed by the always funny Paul Rudd). Fans of Robinson’s quirky humor from “I Think You Should Leave” will surely appreciate the humor in this peculiar exploration of the awkward and nerve-wracking aspects of male camaraderie.
With Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Glazer, and Josh Segarra also part of the cast, “Friendship” promises to deliver the cringe-worthy and peculiar comedy that Robinson’s dedicated fan base adores. Following a theatrical run of a month, A24 will be making “Friendship” available on premium video-on-demand. If you are considering spending $25 to view “Friendship” from the comfort of your home, keep reading to discover updates on when the movie will be streaming for free on HBO Max.
Beginning on Tuesday, June 17 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, June 16) you will be able to buy a digital copy of Friendship on platforms like Amazon Prime, Fandango At Home, Apple TV, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to buy the film, but on Amazon, the film cost $24.99 to pre-order a digital copy. Friendship will not yet be available to rent online.
Friendship is not currently available to stream on any subscription-based services, but the film will eventually be coming to streaming, on Max, thanks to the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brings A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service Max (formerly known as, and soon to once again be known as, HBO Max).
If you’re new to Max, you can sign up for as low as $9.99/month with ads, but an ad-free subscription will cost $16.99/month.
If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the discounted Disney+ Bundles with Hulu and Max. With ads, the bundle costs $16.99/month and without ads, $29.99/month.
The Friendship movie streaming release date on Max has not yet been announced, but we can make an educated guess as to when you can expect to see Friendship on Max.
The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to Friendship, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, Parthenope, began streaming on Max on June 6, about four months after its release in theaters, and about three months after its release on digital.
If Friendship follows a similar release strategy, you might see Friendship streaming on Max in about four months, around mid-September 2025.
This is all speculation. The A24 digital and streaming releases have varied by title. If you want to watch Friendship right away, you can buy a digital copy starting tomorrow.
