It’s been 38 years since Spaceballs, and another movie is coming in hot… in two years.
Amazon MGM Studios has revealed that a sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 parody film, “Spaceballs,” is in the works and set to hit theaters in 2027. In this upcoming installment, Brooks will be reprising his role as Yogurt, as confirmed in a video announcement where he humorously sported a sweatshirt branded with “Spaceballs The Sweatshirt.”
During the announcement, Brooks made a witty remark, stating, “After 40 years, we asked, ‘What do the fans want?’ But instead, we’re making this movie,” before signing off with the iconic line, “May the Schwartz be with you.”
Aside from his role as Yogurt, Brooks, who also portrayed President Skroob in the original film and was involved in directing and co-writing it, shared the news on his X account, affirming, “I told you we’d be back.”
According to Gizmodo, the film is described as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”
Among the other stars of the original film were John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and Dick Van Patten.
Wondering where to watch the original Spaceballs? Here’s what we know.
Deadline reports that in addition to Brooks, Moranis and Pullman are returning for the new film, reprising their respective roles as Dark Helmet and Lone Starr. According to the outlet, Keke Palmer has also reportedly been cast, though intel on her role has yet to be revealed, as has Josh Gad, who co-wrote the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.
