Over the course of six episodes, the mystery thriller takes place in an upper-class Copenhagen suburb where nearly every family has an au pair from the Philippines. Wealthy executive Cecilie (Marie Bach Hansen) and her husband Mike (Simon Sears) love their own young au pair, Angel (Excel Busano), who helps with everything from household chores to childcare. Cecilie and Mike’s neighbors (Lars Ranthe and Danica Curcic) hire their own au pair, Angel’s close friend, Ruby (Donna Levkovski), making their affluent area feel even more tight-knit and communal.
But their bubble of joy and security is suddenly completely shattered when Ruby vanishes without a trace, prompting Cecilie to take action. As she tries to discover the culprit of this disappearance, Cecilie’s entire community falls under suspicion, upending her life as she realizes that people from her own inner circle may have a direct hand in this missing persons case.

Secrets We Keep was indeed filmed in Denmark, with the creators making sure to add realism and weight to their story by shooting on location in and around Copenhagen and its wealthiest suburbs.
Copenhagen’s North Coast was especially featured to help portray the dark underbelly behind the show’s main characters’ and homes’ glossy, seemingly-perfect exteriors. Actual structures in and around Copenhagen were also utilized as both exterior and interior filming locations to contribute to the show’s overall aesthetic. Two such places were the Gotfred Tvedes mansion and Hvidøre House, which are both mansions north of Denmark’s capital city, while the interior of an additional mansion on central Copenhagen’s Amaliegade Street was also utilized.
Secrets We Keep also used Copenhagen outdoor spaces like Bellevue Beach’s Temple Sea Bath and Ørsted Park to further build out and immerse viewers in the show’s world.
