The Righteous Gemstones is now on its fourth and final season. This comedy series, created by and starring Danny McBride, revolves around the Gemstone siblings: Jesse, Judi, and Kelvin, as they navigate personal relationships and maintain their church’s public image.
Originally broadcasted on HBO and later moved to MAX in 2020, the show has been consistent with its season releases. Season 2 premiered early in 2022, followed by Season 3 in June 2023. The current season began on March 9th, with the series finale scheduled for May 4th.
The series primarily takes place in South Carolina, and that’s exactly where the show has been filmed for all of its seasons.
During the filming of Season 4, a casting call was made in September 2024 for locals to participate as background actors and stand-ins in Columbia. The show has extensively filmed in Charleston, using locations such as the Citadel Mall for the Gemstones’ church, The North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center, and the Aviation Square Shopping Mall.
Other locations in South Carolina that were also filming locations include Saint Phillips Island, Mount Pleasant, Ridgeville, and West Ashley.
