The Apprentice may have concluded years in the past, but Whoopi Goldberg believes that President Donald Trump’s reality television career is far from finished. During a recent segment on The View, she and her fellow hosts delved into the topic of the widespread deportations that have commenced just one week after Trump began his second term in office, sparking strong reactions across the nation.
The discussion at the Hot Topics table initially revolved around Selena Gomez’s emotional reaction to Trump’s immigration directives, which she shared and then removed from Instagram the day prior. Gomez was visibly upset as she expressed, “All my people are being attacked, and children.”
Despite Gomez’s evident distress, border czar Tom Homan did not show any sympathy, remarking, “Where’s the concern for [sex-trafficked children]?” in reference to her social media post. His statement ignited a debate among the hosts, prompting them to ponder whether there is a deficiency of empathy in the country.
Goldberg wondered why Trump isn’t deporting people who “are in jail already,” which prompted Joy Behar to quip, “He’d have to send the Jan. 6 people back, too.”
As the audience cheered, Behar grinned, then asked, “I’m wondering, why is Dr. Phil there? What is Dr. Phil doing there?” referring to footage the show had played moments earlier showing Dr. Phil McGraw joining ICE for an immigration raid in Chicago on Sunday (Jan. 26).
McGraw said he “embedded” with ICE as they tracked down “known criminals and terrorists,” per NBC News. He does not currently hold a formal role within the Trump administration.
While Goldberg didn’t answer Behar’s question, she told her, “‘Cause it’s now a reality show. This is the new reality show.”
She added, “I’m hoping that we can put music behind this, because it’s only gonna be a matter of weeks before we start to see, I mean, just folks showing up. What is, what is, what are we — what is going on?”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
