A New Jersey man allegedly murdered his fiancée late last week, a day after he announced their engagement.
According to NJ.com, on December 30, at an Elizabeth home, Jose Melo, 52, fatally stabbed Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, 31. The day before the incident, Melo posted a video on Facebook wherein he proposed to Maldonado, who seemingly agreed.
Records from the state revealed that Melo is a tier-two sex offender with a 2010 conviction for aggravated criminal sexual contact, during which he used a box cutter to threaten a woman and sexually assaulted her.
The Union County prosecutor has charged Melo with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
