An Idaho man was arrested last week for allegedly ringing up expensive items as tomato soup at Walmart’s self-checkout kiosk.
A 32-year-old man named Dylan Rockwell made an unusual attempt at a store on February 2. He allegedly tried to buy a $300 grill by pretending it was a can of tomato soup. The Caldwell police reported that Rockwell admitted to wearing a ring with a barcode from a can of tomato soup. He used this ring to scan it for the grill and other pricier items.
Rockwell was arrested and charged with felony burglary. Police said they recovered the stolen items without incident.
Caldwell police chief Rex Ingram commented on the incident, saying, “Sorry Mr. Rockwell, your tactics didn’t work this time but we appreciate your creativity. We know that times are tough but your ingenuity got you some county soup for dinner.”
