Wendy Williams, the previous host of a popular talk show recognized for her iconic phrase, “How you doin’?”, has been placed under a legal guardianship since 2022 due to being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. Nonetheless, she contests both the diagnoses and the necessity for a guardian. Williams expresses feeling trapped in her current situation and claims that her guardian has been subjecting her to emotional mistreatment.
Following a prosperous initial run of The Wendy Williams Show, the program gained international viewership and amassed 2.4 million daily followers. For several years, Williams rivaled Ellen DeGeneres as one of the most popular female hosts in daytime television. The show aired every day for 12 years consecutively, during which Williams founded her own reality TV company alongside her manager and spouse, Kevin Hunter.
Williams’ health problems became noticeable towards the end of The Wendy Williams Show. She has always been candid about her history of cocaine addiction in the 1980s and 1990s, which she managed to overcome without formal intervention. Additionally, she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease, a condition that leads to hyperthyroidism. In 2017, Williams collapsed during a show recording, and in the subsequent years, guest hosts stepped in for multiple seasons as she grappled with her health concerns.
