A man from West Virginia who reportedly kidnapped his pregnant, estranged wife on Tuesday morning has been apprehended after over 24 hours. The man, identified as Derek Orme, aged 37, was initially located in eastern Kentucky but managed to escape from state police on foot.
The alleged victim, Chelcia Orme, aged 33, was taken by Derek Orme from a truck in Lincoln County, West Virginia. It was reported that Derek fired shots at the vehicle which had multiple people inside, as per WVNS.
According to WCHS, Orme fired multiple shots into the engine block at about 2:15 a.m. and then forced his wife out at gunpoint and took off with her.
West Virginia State Police stated that warrants were issued for Derek Orme’s arrest. The charges against him include wanton endangerment, kidnapping, and destruction of property. Despite the warrants, law enforcement had difficulty locating him.
Kentucky State Police located both Ormes at a home in Grayson, Kentucky, Tuesday afternoon, but he fled the scene on foot and got away. Chelcia Orme had not been physically harmed and was returned to her home in West Virginia.
Early Thursday morning, West Virginia State Police found him back in Huntington, some 30 to 40 miles away from Grayson, and arrested him. They did not say how he got from Kentucky back to West Virginia.
