Did Doug Kill Alice’s Dog In ‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’? Stars AnnaSophia Robb And Alexander Hodge Share What They Know

The latest installment of Grosse Pointe Garden Society kept viewers on edge, not only with the central murder mystery but also with the elusive dog killer storyline. This ongoing enigma has gripped the fictional town, leaving even its stars, AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Hodge, in the dark.

The series took a shocking turn in the first episode when Alice, portrayed by Robb as an ambitious English teacher yearning for more than her small-town life in Grosse Pointe, discovered that her cherished dog Molly had been maliciously shot and killed. This tragic event plunged Alice into turmoil, fueling her relentless quest to unmask the perpetrator, a quest she tenaciously pursues throughout the initial trio of episodes.

During a recent visit to DECIDER’s studio, Robb confessed, “I still don’t know [who did it]. We’re still filming the show,” while assuring fans that the truth behind Alice’s dog’s demise will eventually come to light “later in the season.” In the meantime, she has been constructing her own theories, saying, “I created a whole version of what happens in my head. We’ll see if it comes true.”

Alice initially thought it was one of her rude, entitled students who killed Molly due to a threatening remark he made after she refused to give his plagiarized paper a better grade (and the fact that he’s a proud hunter). But her theory turned out to be a nothing-burger when she realized that, despite his murderous hobby, he’s an animal lover with his own adorable pup named Snowball.

Alice’s suspicions shifted to her husband Doug (played by Hodge) in the latest episode of Grosse Pointe Garden Society after she found a handgun hidden in his paint supplies. Doug had recently opened up about wanting to start a family — something he didn’t think Alice wanted because she already had a baby (Molly), which was enough reason for Alice to cast her blame. While Doug did admit to accidentally leaving the gate open the day Molly escaped from their yard, he seemed truly shocked that his wife would accuse him of committing such a heinous crime.

Hodge, for his part, said he’s been “praying” the writers don’t make his character the cold-blooded dog murderer when he visited DECIDER HQ last week.

“My career wouldn’t survive killing a dog,” he joked. “It was one of those moments of like, ‘Wow, that is bold to start the show there and see if we can take people on this journey.’ But look, I’ve learned not to doubt the creators, Jenna [Bans] and Bill [Krebs are] just phenomenal. The writers room they’ve assembled, I call them the Avengers because, like, they literally are just titans of writing.”

Still, Hodge said he’s treading lightly around the writers, who have the power to take his character down a very dark path. “I’m on my best behavior around the writers because I feel like if they don’t like me, I might suddenly be the one holding the smoking gun,” he said.

The actor even addressed fan theories that it was Doug’s parents, who had been pressuring the married couple to settle down and give them a grandchild.

“I think Doug’s parents might be a little overbearing, but they just want a baby,” Hodge said. “I don’t know about your parents but my parents are not so subtle about it. But I don’t think they’re killing dogs.”

“That said, who knows?” he continued. “I’ve enjoyed watching the audience response. You know, there’ve been some really wonderful things [that] even I haven’t considered. Some people are really wonderfully creative and imaginative and it’s been fun reading some responses.”

We might not have a definitive answer on who killed Molly just yet — but it sounds like we’ll find out in due time!
